Agitators in the metallurgical industry are used for immersion painting and tempering basins.
There are several factors involved in the tempering of steel parts:
- Those inherent in material quality such as grain size and composition determine the "critical hardening speed",
- and those that determine the cooling speed of the different points of the parts, shape and dimensions of the parts and the means used for cooling.
Different cooling speeds will be handled with the medium. With water the speed will be higher than with polymers and also higher than with oils.
The agitation of the medium with side or top entry mechanical agitators provides indispensable advantages to the process.

Agitation of the medium
The agitation of the medium with side or top entry mechanical agitators brings indispensable advantages to the process..
They generate high speeds in the medium that against the surfaces of the parts accelerate the cooling process, which is fundamental for good tempering, and renew the medium by bringing colder fluid to the hot tempering zone.
Large pieces
When the pieces are large, the problem acquires other characteristics.
It is necessary to reach a level of homogeneity and distribution of flows as uniform as possible so that all the points of a piece receive the same amount of liquid and with the same speed so that the cooling speed is equal and therefore the tempering characteristics coincide.
Experience has shown that being pools with large volumes, these results are achieved with side entry agitators uniformly distributed over two opposite walls.
